My last holiday was...
In August I had an incredible foodie weekend in the exciting and elegant Italian city of Bologna. Renowned for its tagliatelle al ragù, our first stop before a walking tour of the city, was for lunch in the Quadrilatero district, which is a fantastic place to visit bustling cafes, delis and restaurants, market stalls, watch fresh pasta being prepared and enjoy a glass of chilled wine accompanied by fine cheeses and charcuterie. We stayed at Hotel Touring which is a perfectly centrally located hotel in a quiet location, featuring a roof-top hot tub with stunning 360-degree views of the city and surrounding hills. Boasting the world’s oldest University, Bologna is bursting with history and culture so visits to the many museums is a must, including a visit to the Ferrari and Lamborghini museums for car enthusiasts. Keep an eye out for opera performances at Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti in Modena, the home of Pavarotti. A day trip to Venice is also possible, we took the train which was super easy and inexpensive and a pure delight with very few tourists travelling and the absence of cruise ships. For a taste of local nightlife, join the locals in the queues for gelato then head to Piazza Maggiore for a spot of people watching with the backdrop of historic architecture and live music from street musicians.
My next holiday is...
A 10-day small group tour to Borneo, Malaysia, with Intrepid Travel. We will be heading into lush jungles, down scenic rivers and through the traditional villages. On the way, we'll be soaking up stunning mountain vistas, meeting local villagers, relaxing on stunning beaches and encountering some pretty special wildlife.
My dream holiday is...
Torn between an expedition to Svalbard, Norway, an adventure through the Yukon territory in Canada or camping and kayaking down the Colorado River through the grand canyon.
