One of the biggest surprises for most first time visitors to Las Vegas is – It’s not all about the Casinos. Las Vegas has re-invented itself over the last ten years. Now people go for the Pool Parties (The ones at The Hard Rock are great), the Top Restaurants with World renowned Chefs, fantastic shopping, Free attractions like the Fountains at The Bellagio, and the sheer neon-lit good time vibe that permeates the place. Films like Oceans 11 and The Hangover have changed this into one of the great party destinations on the Planet. Remember – What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! But there is history here too if you want to dig a bit. Las Vegas started as a Western Cowboy Town before becoming the home of the Rat Pack (and a few mobsters) in the 1950’s. Elvis, Monroe, JFK – They all came here to Party and watch the shows – and nowadays acts like Elton John and Britney Spears, or Cirque de Soleil, attract a new crowd ready to be wowed Make time to visit Old Vegas – Fremont Street – now a covered over shopping area – worth a visit for the Zip-line alone.
Insider tip
A trip out into the Desert for a spot of Horseback riding brings out the Cowboy or Cowgirl in us all. You’ll be shouting “Howdy Partner” and doffing your Ten Gallon hat before you know it. The ranch hands will prepare your horse for your adventure and then you are off into the majestic desert wilderness of Nevada
Events and festivals
New Years Eve is the big one here. Hotel rates go through the roof but its is the best NYE Celebration we know. The whole Strip is shut to Traffic and it becomes one big outdoor party with over 300,000 people attending last year. At Midnight the hotels org anise a choreographed Fireworks display. Then it’s on the Clubs where Celebrities dance to the top DJ’s from around the world. A lot of the bars will do a deal which includes nibbles, Champagne at Midnight, and an open bar for a certain time all for a fixed price Nb Most will charge a cover charge and you must be 21 or over to drink here so have your ID ready to prove it.
