KENYA: The Great Migration & beach relaxation

In Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve, great herds of wildebeest move across the plains in a cloud of sunlit dust, shying from prowling lion prides. Lanky giraffe nibble on acacia trees whose branches might hold vultures or leopard. In the great Mara River, hippo yawn and crocodiles lurk, waiting to ambush an unwary antelope.

A visit to Kenya with Audley can give you the chance to see the drama of the Great Migration. You can also meet the local Maasai to learn more about their history and culture in this wild and ancient land.

What’s more, a new train line has just opened linking Nairobi to Tsavo National Park, giving you easy, good-value access to a safari, as well as to beaches, where you can unwind on white-sand shores after your many game drives.

AUDLEY TRIP IDEA: Indulge in a luxury safari in Tsavo National Park, followed by a few days lounging on soft-sand beaches.

SOUTH AFRICA: Big Five safaris, wine tasting & whale watching

Few countries pack as much into their borders as South Africa, making it one of our best-loved destinations. Thanks to Kruger National Park and the private reserves that border it, it’s well-known as a safari destination, but you can also see the Big Five elsewhere, including the Madikwe Game Reserve.

There’s so much more to South Africa, too — you can indulge in history and culture in cool, cosmopolitan Cape Town. On a driving tour of the Winelands, you can sip local vintages while admiring the landscape of expansive vineyards against a backdrop of mountains. And, along the windswept Garden Route, you can soak up the coastal views and keep your eyes peeled for migrating whales.

AUDLEY TRIP IDEA: Journey by rail as part of a trip that takes you from Kruger to Cape Town, including a guided tour of Robben Island and a visit to the Winelands.

TANZANIA: A perfect honeymoon destination

Rightly famed for its wildlife, Tanzania has some of the best safari experiences we've encountered. But don't be misled into thinking it's just about big game spotting and grassy plains. Tanzania is also a very versatile honeymoon option.

A place where you could hike to the edge of the vast Ngorongoro Crater or end your trip lazing by your private pool on Zanzibar Island. Take a boat ride through the wetlands of the Nyerere National Park or dive off the coast from close-lying Mafia Island. Whichever you decide, it's possible to find a secluded spot to do it.

AUDLEY TRIP IDEA: Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is one of East Africa's most iconic and extremely luxurious lodges, perched on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater. There are chandeliers in the rooms, bathtubs overlooking the crater, and private butlers to attend to your every need.

BOTSWANA: Experience incredible wildlife in luxurious surroundings

While Botswana is well-known for its luxury safari lodges. Privacy, exclusivity, king-sized beds, bathrooms with bathtubs, outdoor showers, private plunge pools, and all in a pristine environment with the wildlife all around you.

The luxury touches don't stop there. If you're in the Okavango Delta and your lodge is near a permanent water area you can enjoy water activities all year round. To be poled along through the lily and reed in a traditional Mokoro (a dugout canoe) with a bottle of champagne and a picnic is one of the most relaxing ways to explore the waterways and see the wildlife.

At night, relaxing over drinks on the outdoor deck is a wonderful place in which to sit around the fire and gaze up at the stars. Your whole camp will reverberate with the sound of reed frogs and hippo. The service and standard of food in the most luxurious lodges are superb.

AUDLEY TRIP IDEA: Stay at the world-famous Mombo Camp in Moremi Game Reserve, one of Africa’s most luxurious safari camps.
